Praise be Jesus Christ!

Now and forever.

In our reflection on the Mass, we come to the Gospel acclamation which is an important part of the Liturgy of the Word during Mass, welcoming the Lord before the Gospel reading. Typically, it takes the form of "Alleluia," sung in all seasons except Lent, when an alternative is used.

This acclamation is more than a prelude; it emphasizes the significance of the Gospel, with the assembly standing to sing it, led by a choir or cantor. The accompanying verse is drawn from the Lectionary.

As the high point of the Liturgy of the Word, the Gospel reading is highlighted by this moment of reverence and anticipation, inviting the faithful to connect with the transformative words of Christ. Overall, the acclamation is a vital liturgical element that fosters communal worship and underscores the importance of the Gospel.

Blessings,

Fr. Andrew
