SFX Parish Visit Frank Cardinal Leo

Dear parishioners,

In the sacred moment following the "Sanctus," the invocation of the Holy Spirit, known as the Epiclesis, unfolds with profound significance. As the priest extends his hands, he calls upon the divine presence: "You are indeed Holy, O Lord, the fount of all holiness." This invocation is not merely a ritual; it is a heartfelt plea for the transformation of ordinary gifts into something extraordinary—the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In this sacred act, we see the deep intertwining of the divine and human, as the faithful, gathered in unity, seek the touch of the Holy Spirit to sanctify the offerings of bread and wine. It is a moment that transcends time, echoing the prayers of the early Church Fathers like St. Cyril of Jerusalem and St. John Chrysostom, who understood the Epiclesis as a pivotal element of our liturgical life. They imparted the wisdom that it is through the Holy Spirit that these humble gifts are elevated, becoming vessels of grace that nourish and transform us.

This invocation serves as a reminder of our communal identity in Christ. Together, we open our hearts to the Spirit, inviting His presence to envelop us, to unify us, and to lead us deeper into the mystery of faith.

Blessings,

 Fr. Andrew
